Baptism is the first and fundamental sacrament of Christian life, the gateway to all other sacraments. The baptism of a child is a time to celebrate for the parents, family, friends, and the entire community of believers. During the baptism, the parents accept the responsibility to bring up the child in the practice of the faith. They become the first teachers of the faith for their children.
In order to better help parents understand this responsibility, the Church requires parents and godparents to attend a preparation class so that they are well-prepared for this first sacrament and celebration with their child. This faith-enhancing gathering helps to deepen their understanding of the special sacrament in which they are about to participate. This is also an opportunity for young parents to witness the faith of other young families.
There are two Baptism classes offered each month; one in English and one in Spanish. The English speaking class is held on the 1st Thursday of the month from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm and the Spanish speaking class is held on the 1st Wednesday of the month from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Both parents and Godparents are required to attend these sessions. We also offer Walk-in Baptism Preparation Classes on the same days and times, for families baptizing their children outside of All Saints Church. The fee is $20 per person/couple.
To sign up for a Baptism please contact the parish office to fill out an application at least one month before the date of your child’s baptism. Baptisms are not held during Lent and in the month of December.
